100 YEARS OF OCCIDENTAL HISTORY (2023)

A collage of 100 years of history in pictures (20th/21st century)

This Hand-cut Collage, using famous images of occidental history in the last 100 years, conveys the layering and butterfly effect of events that have shaped our society today. It uses the same technique as my previous works: spontaneous and a problem solving exercise. After choosing the magazine(s), I cut random shapes out of any picture that peaks my interest. It could be for its pattern or its subject. Once I feel satisfied, I take what I have and proceed to create a composition on paper without altering the media I have at my disposition. Finding a way to make the cutouts work into a compelling composition is a puzzle that creates itself as the pieces are laid down. The process is a big player in the messages conveyed.

VISUAL IDENTITY: CENTQUATRE PARIS (2019)

The Cent Quatre is a versatile and busy space, full of life of all cultures, ages and activities. It was tricky to capture its essence through its content, so I chose to work on the architecture of the place, and the arch-shaped gates in particular.

Therefore I researched narrow condensed fonts, to best accommodate the roundness of the arch in lettering.I thus selected the Gravur font, because its proportions allowed me to customize it into the desired shape. I proceeded to do so on the N, A and O to incorporate the arch consistently and changed the tip of the Q aswell for spacing and balance.The logotype is therefore a custom font.
